  • *sigh*

As with all war, in all time it's the children who suffer the most. As much as I understand the need to kill those that are nut jobs...when are we as humans going to stop inflicting such pain on each other? I am not a Lib or bleeding heart so back off flamers...but just seeing this child's face and tears made me get all choked up and fight off my own tears.

  • daddy's back!

yeah, you do it for your kids.... nice story!

  • how wonderful!

So touching! My hubby is a marine and we have 2 young boys...so it really got me! We have been lucky enough to not have to watch him go off to Iraq...and we count our blessings daily. I am always in awe of the families left behind. I don't know where they find their strength. I watch units come home to beautiful home made "Welcome Back Daddy" signs and as happy as that occasion is, you can't help but feel sad for those still over there and those who won't return. So nice to see a happy ending sometimes.

  • Nice, but...

Just think, this video is seen all around the world, and the clowns that this guy was fighting in Iraq see this too, and all they can think about is how they would like to slit that kids' throat.

  • Welcome Home

Very touching and good to see a "Vet" return home to his family. You don't have to agree with the war or support the war, but you should support the troops who fight it!

  • i remember my 6 year old boy, and how he looked and felt about his daddy

and today, 12 years later, he is less than 30 days from going active in the USAF EOD (explosive ordinance detatchment). Wars will never stop, but we will always have a choice as to whether or not to engage. He is excited. I fear the worst.

  • Wow! Awesome story...

This story really got to me, as a mother and having to be gone away from my children for a long period of time, and then to surprise them like that, thats awesome, it brought tears to my eyes... really awesome!!!!

  • Coincidence?

What's really cool is that the sound man, the lighting guy, and the cameraman just happened to be hanging out in that elementary school classroom.

  • Wonderful!

This is heartwarming, but he's not a soldier, he's a sailor, and an officer at that.

why do people post election crap over this? I don't even wanna hear about Hillary Clinton. This video was not aired with the intention to influence politics. This is a story about a little boy whose daddy came home. HELLOOOOO???

    By thewatchers, Jun 6 2007, 01:07 AM
  • real human tragedy

I wonder if George Bush knows that deaths and amputations aren't the only sacrifices people make for his war. Every soldier is loved and missed and our overstimulated fear of attack doesn't come close to a childs fear of losing a parent. Bush and all war supporters need to see this. THIS is the cost of the war that you invented on weak evidence and continue to fight out of pride and embarassment. Support the troops. Bring them home! The Iraqis don't want us there anyway.

GOOD STUFF. If you have negative comments about the war your current leadership. I would ask you do not post them hear.

  • Happy

I will be honest and admit that my eyes welled up at this..I have just retired from the British Army, also have a young child and am so happy she will never have to go through this again. Happy to see a family reunited. My thoughts are with all the lads and lassies on deployments and with the wonderful families waiting for them to return.

  • I'm currently in Afghanistan and can't wait to do the same thing to my son when I come home. I got teary-eyed when I saw this. The Ensign did what every servicemember hopes to do - he came home wearing his shield instead of on it.

i just got so teared up when i saw the expression on the childs face when he ran to his dad. And just think there are so many other children that will not experience the joy and excitment of having their parents coming home from the war. My heart goes out to this family and all the familys in the war.

He obviously misses his father. Hopefully his dad can stay stateside for a long, long time. And a big 'eff you to all the comment posts that want to make a political statement out of this heart warming video.

it made my eyes a bit teary. and its true, the children do suffer the most.

  • Good Stuf!

That was certainly a tear jerker, and I have to say it truly warmed my heart to watch. My husband has been deployed to Iraq for 13 months now, and we are just weeks away from his return. That feeling of reuniting is overwhelming, yet relieving. The expression on your sons face really said it all. I am so glad that you made it home safely, and that your family is reunited. I can hardly wait for that for myself and my son. God bless your family, and stay safe. Thank you for your sacrifice, and your bravery.

I guess that as we all sit and bitch and complain about the war and our govts decisions and the money we spend over seas we quickly forget about the impact that it has upon our families right here on our home soil. God Bless everyone fighting for our continued freedom and God bless this child and his father.

  • My dad

I cant really describe to you what its like to have your dad taken away from you for how ever long and not know if he may come back, my dad serves in the british army, and has had to miss some of mine and my siblings birthdays, christmases etc etc but to see him walk through that door when your only means of communications when he was away was through letters, is the best feeling in the world.

  • I Wish The Islamo Facists Loved Their Children Too

Sting's song toward the end of the cold war really summed up how idiotic the nuclear standoff and buildup had been. I just don't see the same affection being a part of so much of the Islamic culture. How could anyone strap a bomb onto the back of a child or a mentally handicapped person is why we fight.
