They are in the middle of the desert...Do you think that artillary men have an easy job, you try carrying around shells that weigh more than your stupidity, and that is a heavy load...The heat there can kill a man more quickly than you realise...And regarding shaving, they are more interested in fighting battles and surviving than having to have to shave...when it is freezing cold of a night time you try to get what ever extra heat that you can...Beards do that...They are there to do a job, not parade around in front of cameras for propaganda purposes...
