Sad that they have so much power and influence. There is no freedom in China and the government has complete control over everything. The 2008 olympics in China reminds me of the 1938 olympics in Germany for some strange reason.

you should probably do a little reading about current china or talk to someone from there, sure its still far from being as free as many countries but they have softened up a fair bit since the days of mao. and i think hosting the olympics will show alot of people that.

Hi everyone, I strongly disagrees with most of the comments posted here. First of all I'm not a Chinese Citizen and I must highlight that China is a peace loving nation. The strong military presence is the only way to defend itself against foreign threats, Taking into account the Country's past experiences regarding foreign occupation on its territories (over hundreds of years) and China had NEVER went on an offence against its neighboring countries, neither was their military talking about expending its territory. So please, a mysterious nation looks threatening from the outside,try visiting China, I have and still touring its provinces and I LOVE it here.
