What exactly was his role there?

Looks like the guy in the red shirt's a cop, he came up behind the bad guy and took him down. The criminal wasn't shot, so I dont know about this "sharpshooter" and his "accuracy", no shots were fired.

it was the guy in the red shirt that got shot, im pretty sure he was tryin to take the guy in front of the door hostage. notice how the guy in the red shirt is layin there lookin like hes dyin with the gun pointed up in the air. if it was a cop why would he just lay there and hold the guy with his gun away from him lol. sharpshooter did a very good job i think.
Look closer
The red shirt guy tackles the criminal, the holds him down while keeping his weapon pointed up. The cops immediately jump on the guy he was tackling,and at the end help the red shirt guy up to his feet, while arresting the guy in the dark jacket. If he (red shirt) wasn't a cop, then he wouldn't have been left alive in any way with that gun in his hand. He would've been shot again. Watch the very ending again.
