A couple in Lexington, Kentucky, that was married for 73 years passed away just five minutes apart. According to, William Wilson, 93, and his wife Lillian Karr Wilson, 89, died in separate nursing homes on April 6. Their love story began in their hometown of Corbin when they became high school sweethearts. They eventually eloped in 1941. The couple spent a couple of years apart after William served in World War II, but they picked up where they left off when he returned in 1945. During their long marriage they raised three sons and shared a strong bond. Their health began to fade later in in their lives and both were diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. They ended up in different nursing homes, but remained committed to one another and saw one another often. “I’m not going ‘til Bill goes,” Lillian would say whenever the subject of death would come up. Sadly, that day came a few weeks ago. Their son, Doug Wilson, told he received a call at 3:57 a.m. on April 6 telling him his father had passed. Five minutes later, there was a second phone call letting him know his mother had died. Doug called his father’s nursing home to let them know his mother was also gone. “The nurse said, ‘Oh, my God, that’s like ‘The Notebook,'” Doug told, referring to the popular romantic novel and film.
