Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT), in an appearance on CNN on Wednesday, undermined Fusion GPS’s salacious Trump dossier that alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian intelligence to steal the 2016 election.
Himes claimed the dossier did not trigger the FBI’s investigation into the Trump campaign. The representative argued instead that George Papadopoulos’s drunken comments to an Australian diplomat, that Russia possessed damaging information on the Clinton campaign, triggered the investigation.
But regarding the Trump dossier, originally published by BuzzFeed, Himes doubted its authenticity. “The whole case, which was never much of a case, falls apart when you add facts to it,” he said.
