The footage shows a man in the town of Couburg, Ontario, Canada, braves temperatures of -34C to attempt the stunt.
As he flings the pot skywards the scolding water freezes in an instant resulting in a deluge of ice.
Similar videos have been uploaded online before with the astonishing outcome believed to be the result of Mpemba effect, the observation that in certain circumstances warmer water freezes faster than cold.
