Locals were seen hacking meat off an injured whale after it washed up on a beach, according to reports.
Gruesome footage shows the juvenile humpback whale covered in blood as it lies dead on the Zinkwazi Beach, South Africa.
It has not been established what caused the whale's death, but officials say it could have been injured in a collision with a boat after propeller marks were identified on its body.
But before wildlife officials could investigate, the whale was reportedly descended on by knife-wielding locals who butchered away at the giant mammal's flesh.
