Heavyweight fighter Denis Stojnic was not able to make an impact during his brief UFC stint in 2009. But on Friday, he was all over the news headlines, and for the right reasons.
The incident took place outside Stonjic’s nightclub, the Dorian Gray in Saravejo. As seen on the video above beginning at the 0:26 mark, a man wearing a yellow jacket was chasing down a woman seemingly on her way out.
The man began to violently tug on the woman’s hair, and went on to drag her behind a parked black car where he continued to physically assault her. Moments later, Stonjic, clad in dark clothing, was seen rushing towards the commotion and immediately pulled the man away.
Stonjic later spoke regarding the incident, baring more details about what happened.
“When I saw on my video controller, Dorian Gray, that a huge man even proportions physically higher than me, striking a female person with a fisted fist, I immediately ran out and reacted so that they were protected from the perpetrators,” Stonjic said through a translator. “I conquered it and finally we accompanied the girl along with her security to a taxi, and she did not want to report this case to the police.
”Unfortunately, in our country violence against women is becoming more and more and my duty as a man, a citizen, and then only owners of objects is that everyone in my facilities feels safe, especially women.”
Stonjic (13-3, with 1 NC and 9 wins by stoppage), fought twice in the UFC, losing to both Cain Velasquez and Stefan Struve, respectively.
