According to authorities, a Georgia State University police officer, who was in plain clothes, was attacked by a man with a large butcher knife right outside the police station. In a press conference Wednesday evening, authorities said the knife was 8 inches long. Police said another officer with the Atlanta Police Department responded and she eventually shot the man with the knife after he failed to comply with the officer's commands. "The subject appears to have been shot in the lower torso," said APD Capt. Paul Guerrucci. "One shot appears to have been fired." Guerrucci also said both officers are being treated for injuries, but did not specify if the GSU officer had been stabbed.
