This is the dramatic moment a would-be robber crashed through a shop ceiling and knocked himself unconscious. CCTV footage shows the man plummet through the roof in a hail of debris and land in a crumpled heap next to a tobacconist's kiosk in a South African supermarket. He fell around four metres to the ground in the store in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga at 1:10am, reports Lowvelder. A female baker found the prone man and pressed the panic button to alert security. “Security and the police were here in seconds,” said a manager of the store. “We are just glad the man was unconscious when the baker came running out or he probably would have taken her hostage.” It is believed that the man moved the ceiling tiles to get to the tobacconist but did not realise the ceiling would give way when he stood on it. Store managers claim the man may have wanted to steal cigarettes as they are easy to carry and sell. The man, who was unarmed, was later arrested and is scheduled to appear in court on charges of attempted robbery.
